SCHUNZ S. & ANDOURA S. - Climate Change and Energy Transition / Changement climatique et transition énergétique (20h)
This 20-hour, bilingual course will provide an understanding of the major challenges of climate change and the energy transition and how they are being tackled politically and strategically at the global level and in the European context, with a special emphasis on Southeastern Europe.
The course will be taught in English and French, and the different assessment components will involve the use of both languages.
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
- Analyse, explain and assess the contemporary challenges of climate change and the energy transition in their global, European (Union) and Southeastern European contexts;
- Examine and evaluate the EU’s domestic and external climate and energy policies in their geopolitical and geo-economic context;
- Identify and discuss the conditions under which EU domestic and external climate and energy policies can be effective, especially vis-à-vis the non-EU countries of Southeastern Europe;
- Apply the acquired knowledge and skills in order to analyse and critically reflect upon contemporary practices of EU external climate and energy policies and partnerships, notably in the Southeastern Europe;
- Employ the acquired knowledge and skills to make suggestions on how to improve EU external climate and energy policies vis-à-vis the non-EU countries of Southeastern Europe and how to potentially foster coordination, cooperation and/or integration in these policy areas where needed.
