BLOCKMANS S. – European Strategic Autonomy and Defence Capabilities (20h)
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of European strategic autonomy in the area of defence. Building on an overview of attempts to foster cooperation between member states’ armies and industrial bases, the push for the development of defence capabilities for EU operations will be examined, also from the perspective of partnerships with allies and like-minded countries. Students will critically analyse the strategic, political, legal and economic dimensions of the EU’s growing ambition to develop as a strong military actor.
