"Regards Croisés", Issue #8 on Going back to the Turkish Question: 15 students of the Bruges and Natolin campus have examined the debate on the accession of Turkey to the EU, with the intention of reflecting over recent events and long-term trends in the relations between Turkey and the EU. This issue is made of their contributions and the conclusions of the debate they have had with a group of experts invited to contribute on this debate.

Following the dynamic and controversial speech on ”Montesquieu and the European Union”, given by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt to the College of Europe community in the new Bruges Concert Hall yesterday, Monday the 18th of November 2002, the College of Europe, Campus Bruges, is organising a top level Forum on the cultural and educational impacts of enlargement and the role of the culture and education within Europe taking place from November 19th until 24th 2002 in Bruges, Belgium.
Friday 15 November
Mr Guy Verhofstadt, Prime Minister of Belgium, will deliver a speech on "Montesquieu et l'Union européenne" in the new Concert Hall of Bruges.
Monday 10 June
The Department of Economics of the College of Europe located in Bruges, Belgium, is organising an experts' conference on "Economic Co-ordination in EMU". The conference will cover the macroeconomic (budgetary policy, optimal policy mix), microeconomic (the Cardiff and Luxembourg processes as well as social and labour market reforms) and institutional aspects of co-ordination.

Wednesday 15 November
Following the proposal of the Academic Council of the College of Europe, the Administrative Council, chaired by Jean-Luc Dehaene, Minister of State, Senator and former Belgian Prime Minister, appointed Prof. Dr. P.W.C. Akkermans M.A., yesterday in Bruges as Rector of the College of Europe for a period of five years, commencing the 1st July 2001.
Wednesday 8 November
H.E. Paavo Lipponen, Prime Minister of Finland, will visit the College of Europe, Bruges on Friday 10th November at 10h45. He will be accompanied by Ambassador Antti Satuli, Finnish Permanent Representative to the European Union.

Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene, Minister of State, Senator, former Prime Minister of Belgium, was appointed this afternoon in Bruges President of the Administrative Council, the highest decision-making body of the College of Europe, following a proposal by the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi.

Fifty-one graduate students from twenty-three countries will gather in Natolin Park, Warsaw, on September 20th, 1994, to mark the opening of the College's first full academic year in Poland. Two Natolin pilot promotions studied mainly in Bruges.
